The Juliana Theory: "Love"
Rolling Stone's Review:
Rating: **
An emo-punk version of a Creed album, complete with dark, near-metal riffage, thrashy screeching, big-ass choruses and tenaciously serious poetry about "suffer[ing] a heart attack under the weight of the world."

i gave them the extra half star because i love the juliana theory and respect them so much. there first 2 albums were amazing. i could not get into LOVE however frankly because it sounds too radio. It sounds nothing different then some "new band" that a station throws on that shit heads will compare to incubus or audiovent or some shit. I am not trying to be the dorky indie guy that accuses bands of selling out as soon as they change or hop to a bigger label. I am just stating that this album is too "generic radio rock" (music wise not necessarily the lyrics because brett detar is an amazing writer no matter what the "style of music") I also would like to know what the hell Kill Posers is talking about. Who gives a shit about the quality of the recording. What counts is how good the music is. I guess if i record myself taking a shit on the highest quality equipment "kill Posers" would ... |
My Track-by-Track Review:
* It deserves to rot in hell **It sucks *** It's alright **** It's good
***** It's fucking awesome
1. Bring it Low
Rating: *****
Comments: I blasted this song the first time I heard it. I can relate to the lyrics...the song just absorbs me. I know, I'm gay.
2. Do You Believe Me?
Rating: ***1/2
Comments: It's pretty good. Emotional just as all the other songs, but it sounds like a lot of the songs they overplay on the radio.
3. Shell of a Man
Rating: ***
Comments: I like listening to it, but I couldn't play it over and over again. It's a little repetitive.
4. Repeating, Repeating
Rating: ****1/2
Comments: Prolly my second favorite song on the album. "I'm bleeding to make this all worthwhile..." I love that line. Emotional in the lyrics and in the way it's played/sung. It does sound a little overplayed radio-ish though.
5. Congratulations
Rating: *****
Comments: Prolly my fave track. It's really high-energy emo. They rock hard on this one
6. Jewel to Sparkle
Rating: ****1/2
Comments: Ok ya kind of radio-ish but it's so well-played and it does have some unique aspects. I'm a fucking little sucker for romance, and it's a sweet song. "Please don't turn your eyes my way, they're unnerving and undeniable....I can feel the real you, I can see inside you..."
7. White Days
Rating: ****
Comments: Good song...the only thing that I don't like is the annoying techno-ish background noise and a little repetitive at the end.
8. The Hardest Thing
Rating: ***
Comments: I enjoy listening to it, but I just couldn't sit with it on repeat for hours like I could with some of the songs on this album.
9. DTM
Rating: ****
Comments: Another very emotional, high-energy song. I just don't like it as much as a few of the other ones.
10. Trance
Rating: ***1/2
Comments: Pretty good song, some good drumming and good lyrics as always.
11. In Conversation
Rating: ***
Comments: It's an enjoyable song, but I felt as if I was on the edge waiting for it to go into a higher-energy chorus or something.
12. Into the Dark
Rating: ****
Comments: This is one of those songs I tend to close my eyes and lip sync to every time I hear it. Flaws: radio-ish, tiny bit repetetive in some places, but I still love it.
13. As it Stands
Rating: ***1/2
Comments: It kind of lacks rhythm, but I do like the lyrics and the emotion.
14. Everything
Rating: ****
Comments: Tis good. "Life is love or the lack thereof" true, true. I really like this song, but not as much as some of the other tracks.
Overall: I love this CD. I'd definitely recommend it to any emo fans. If you don't like emo...well, don't buy it and fuck you *tear*. Just kidding :P
